Build Your Character

“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. Do not let your adornment be merely outward — arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” 1 Peter 3:1-4 (NKJV)

As a Christian who has received the life of God, one of the ways you reveal the quality of that life in you is by allowing the Word of God to build your character.

Character is an indispensable commodity in life, in relationships, in career, etc. Developing your character is important because you can only influence those who admire you. Admiration begets influence.

Do not live your life with a nonchalant attitude, disrespectful, rude, etc. No, adorn yourself from within with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. This is the value in your spirit as a child of God, so allow your recreated human spirit to influence your outward disposition and conduct.

Your pointed nose, complexion, and all the other things you like about your physical body is not the real you. The real you is your spirit which is so precious in the sight of God.

The Amplified Bible in 1 Peter 3:4 describes the real you this way, “But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.”

You can reveal that beauty of the hidden person through your character.

Please read Galatians 4:19 and pray that Christ be formed in you.
