Develop Competence 1
“David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him. When Saul recognized this, he became even more afraid of him. But all Israel and Judah loved David because he was so successful at leading his troops into battle.”
1 Samuel 18:14-16 (NLT)
Like you learnt yesterday in our recap of all you have been learning this month in this devotional, having consistency of character should be your priority, and as you do, you must also develop competence. We have defined competence as the ability to carry out your assignment effectively. Don’t forget that the measure of your competence is what determines the measure of your influence.
Our opening scripture shows us that David eventually became the king of Israel because he kept on growing in competence. Competence inspires. 1 Samuel 18:16 (NLT) says, “But all Israel and Judah loved David because he was so successful at leading his troops into battle.”
Remember that leadership is the ability to inspire followership. Without success it is difficult to inspire followership but with great success you will become a leader others are willing to follow.
If you are a Christian, I encourage you to develop competence for the sake of the kingdom because your success makes Christianity attractive. Your competence is a message.
Dear Father, in the Name of Jesus, I judge myself in any way I have been lazy in improving myself. Today, I receive grace because I know that it is not by might, nor by power but by Your Spirit. So Father, today I shout grace, grace unto my process, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You Father for the grace to labour in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
