“Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:22-24
You fellowship with God in your spirit. If your worship does not come from your heart and if it is not in line with the Word of God, it is a wasted worship.
Matthew 15:8-9 (NLT) says, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce …”
I heard of the story of a man who recited Psalm 23 and every one was shouting excitedly with applauds and then an elderly man came and recited the same Psalm 23, when he was through they were all crying. What was the difference? He said the young man knows the psalm but I know the shepherd.
You can know God in your head or you can know God in your heart. If you want to get to know God intimately by revelation, I encourage you to pray Ephesians 1:17 for yourself daily.
Dear Father, I ask that You grant unto me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
