What Is Faith? 2
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
Faith is a confident expectation based on God’s Word irrespective of contrary circumstances. So when you are functioning in faith, the Word of God is the basis for your confidence. It does not matter what is happening around you, it is what the Word of God says that is final authority in your life. Say out loud: “The Word of God is final authority in my life.”
The New International Version puts our opening scripture this way, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” What is your hope? Your hope refers to your expectation. Therefore faith is a confident expectation based on the Word of God.
In the realm of faith, the Word of God is the evidence. The Amplified translation puts our opening scripture this way, “NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].” This shows that when a man or woman is functioning by faith, they are taking God at His Word.
In the Name of Jesus I declare that I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
